Meeting place: Burger King, Masjid Jamek LRT station. We'll take a group shot at 4.45pm. Besides Burger King there are Ramadan stalls as well which we can shoot. We'll take a group shot at 4.45pm and then proceed to the Ramadan Bazaar area along Jalan Raja Alang. Buka Puasa is at 7.11 pm. Google Maps to KL Intenational Hotel and Kampung Baru: http://tinyurl.com/6bgfyd ------------------------------------------------------------------- What to expect: What and how to shoot The outings will essentially be street photography but your subjects can be people or objects related to Ramadan and the Hari Raya preparation since there'll be people buying and selling food at food stalls for buka puasa and shops and stalls selling things for Hari Raya. Some places will have Hari Raya decorations up, most likely around the Masjid India area shops. To fit the theme, the subjects and/or objects in the image must be able to convey a sense of the Ramadan/Hari Raya atmosphere. Please be tactful when shooting people in crowds like these. Move in small groups not larger than three persons; two persons would be ideal since a large number of us crowding on one subject will be too intimidating. Also, don't linger with one subject too long, say a food seller, as some feel that our presence will affect their business since customers might be avoiding their stall with us there. If someone objects to being shot, just smile and move along. Smile, ask permission and wear your Nikon T-shirt so that people will know we are part of a group. If you don't have a Nikon T-shirt, please contact me (see below). What equipment to use A medium zoom like the kit lens is suitable but a 'walkabout' lens, such as an 18-200mm lens (cropped sensor) would be ideal so you can capture the general scene and the wide view among the stalls and crowds but you can also zoom into details or certain subjects or portraits. An ultra wide angle lens would be useful when in crowded situations to capture the scene from very close quarters. A tripod or even monopod is not suitable to be used for these outings. As the evening falls, be wary about low light affecting the ability to ensure fast enough shutter speed so you might need to raise your ISO and widen your aperture. Switching to a wide aperture lens is recommended when the light starts failing. Since evenings can be wet nowadays, bring along your raincoat/poncho or umbrella and in crowded situations always be careful with your equipment. Note: For those unable to make it for the group shot but will be particapting in the outing, or if you have any queries, please contact me at 012-282 5317 Monthly meeting for September Please be informed that the Photographic Society of Petaling Jaya's monthly meeting for September will be as follows: Date : 6 September 2008 (Saturday) Time : 3:00pm to 5.00pm Venue: Kuala Lumpur International Hotel 2nd Floor, Function Room No. 79, Lorong Hj Hussein 2 Off Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Map: StreetDirectory: http://tinyurl.com/63erpt Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/6bgfyd Our guest speaker will be Mr. Alex Foong, who is from the Photography Special Interest Group (SIG) for the Malaysia Nature Society (MNS).
